The wood wool firelighter is a natural and ecological solution for easy fire starting. The production of wood wool firelighters begins with the careful selection of suitable softwood (mainly spruce, pine or to a limited extent birch, alder and linden), which is cut into logs and then planed. The result of planing the logs are wood fibers called wood wool, which are 0.1 mm to 0.3 mm thick, with a width ranging from 2 mm to 3 mm.
The raw wood wool is then twisted into cords with a diameter of approximately 25 mm using special “spinning wheels”, and these cords are subsequently wound into rolls. Since this is manual production, the diameter of the finished cord may vary slightly.
The wood wool cords are then left to dry. Drying is a lengthy process that takes several weeks. After thorough drying, the cords are dipped in a hot paraffin bath, allowed to drip and cool.
The cords prepared in this way are cut to the required length on an automatic saw according to customer requirements and packed into consumer packaging.
